Learn How to Putt Better…
Do you want to sink every putt consistently? All golfers have the occasional days when they are able to sink every putt, from anywhere on the green. How do you develop the confidence and skills to be able to putt well on any green? This takes plenty of practice.
To improve your putting, use a practice green. Putt from a wide range of distances, from just a foot from the hole as well as from the very edge of the green. Try uphill, downhill, and flat putting. Begin with an easy, straight putt. Aim for the back of the cup, and make a solid stroke. When putting either uphill or downhill, start with straight strokes, and then putt from every direction from the hole so that you can practice angled shots. Begin a foot or two from the hole, working your way outwards as your putting skills improve.
Remember, there are no 'gimmies' and no 'mulligans' in the game of golf. Each shot should be taken with patience and concentration. Line up the shot carefully and take a deep breath before each putt. Keep your eyes on the hole, not the ball. This will help you subconsciously line up the head of the putter with the hole. Your pre-shot routine is one of the most important steps to sinking more of your putts.
Always try to sink every putt, even from far back on the green. Don't just aim to get near the hole – assume you can make it in one putt. A good putter must be able to accurately judge both distance and stroke. Your ability to convert shots is essential when trying to lower your golf scores. Learn to sink every putt, from every location on every type of green. Your assessment of the green is the key to deciding upon a strategy and lining up a putt.
If you routinely take three or more putts on each hole, you can benefit from concentrated putting practice. Simply playing a round of golf does not give you nearly enough practice to improve your putting skills. Putting on the green is an art in itself, and requires a much different skill set than your long-range game. Your putt must be smooth and confident, not hesitant or jerky.
