It is true that some professionals like to select every club individually as per their specific requirement; it may be too much of a hassle for the weekend player to get into that. Especially if you are new to the sport, it is a better idea to go for a complete set – after all you may make a couple of wrong decisions if you go for individual ones. You may be wondering why you need a whole set
Well, if you a professionally qualified player one can understand if you want to select every club of your kit to specific requirement. But if you are a beginner do not get carried away with this idea when you see a pro buying individual clubs. After all it takes years of practice to perfect any sport, and that holds so very true with golf. Rather than bungle up by buying the wrong clubs, you would be better if getting hold of a set. Some companies throw in a few free balls, while others provide a kit bag to hold the clubs. You will no doubt be given a good driver with a fair number of woods and irons as well. The putter and the wedge should also be included in the set of clubs. The kit bag generally has pockets to hold your other odds and ends while a more comprehensive kit would include accessories such as gloves as well. What you buy is more of a preference based option, and one that is only limited by your needs and by your personal budget.
